The debt brake is wobbling, central banks are talking about climate, topics like sustainable development and the common good economy are booming: since the global financial crisis and with increasing environmental and climate awareness, criticism of prevailing economic policy concepts is growing. OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría has appointed a high-level group of experts to develop reform proposals for economic policy. The guiding idea is not to see growth as an end in itself, but as a means to achieve social goals such as ecological sustainability, equal opportunities and individual and global well-being. Author Michael Jacobs presents the key findings of the final report. Afterwards, he discusses with Dennis Snower, member of the Expert Council, Katharina Beck (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) and Christoph Schmidt (RWI Essen).

Michael Jacobs’ report sets out what can be done to address the profound challenges and problems we face today. He argues that this requires a new set of goals and benchmarks of economic and social progress, new frameworks for economic analysis and new types of policy.

ABOUT NEW PARADIGM

KNOWLEDGE BASE

After decades of overly naive market belief, we urgently need new answers to the great challenges of our time. More so, we need a whole new paradigm to guide us. We collect everything about the people and the community who are dealing with the question of a new paradigm and who analyze the historical and present impact of paradigms and narratives – whether in new contributions, performances, books and events.
