What political lessons can be taken away from the wealth simulator? That’s what we wanted to know from Norbert Walter-Borjans at the launch event for our simulator last Friday. We also spoke to the former SPD party chairman about why he believes the simulator makes an important contribution to the debate on inequality in Germany, why we need to narrow the gap between rich and poor in order to manage the transformation of the economy and how high the chances are that a start up capital will make it into the SPD’s next election programme.

Watch the full interview (in German) here.

The ReBalance Wealth Simulator makes it possible to map over a long-term period how much instruments such as start up capital or an inheritance tax would contribute to reducing wealth inequality in Germany. The simulator was developed in an intensive steering process together with a group of scientists led by Timm Bönke and Charlotte Bartels from DIW Berlin.
