1 MINTo say it without much ado: two years after our start, we are enormously pleased to welcome an extraordinarily prominent reinforcement at the Forum New Economy. Starting this week, Tom Krebs is supporting us in Berlin in our search for a new paradigm. As Research Director, Tom will drive the expansion of our New Paradigm Knowledge Base – and, most importantly, establish as a focal point the fairly new field of research on the macroeconomics of climate change and climate policy. What is new about this research has already been outlined by the internationally renowned economist in two great studies that feature exclusive estimates of the public financing needs associated with the new climate goals of the German government. A follow-up study on how exactly these needs could be financed – without violating the debt brake – is in its final stages.
Tom Krebs is a Professor of Economics at the University of Mannheim. In his research, he studies the impact of economic crises and reforms on growth, inequality and people’s well-being. The results of his research have been published in leading academic journals. From September 2019 to August 2020, Tom Krebs was the first visiting professor at the Federal Ministry of Finance. In addition, he has been an economic consultant for the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.
