New Economy Short Cut with Kristian Blickle (New York Fed)

We cordially invite you to the second edition of our New Economy Short Cuts which will take place on Monday, 20 July at 4 p.m. (CET) and will focus on the 1918 influenza pandemic and its effect on municipal spending and city-level extremist voting in Germany in 1932 and 1933. What are the long-term societal changes brought about by a pandemic? Why might austerity and extremist voting follow a pandemic like the corona-crisis? Our virtual event will start with a fifteen-minute input by Kristian Blickle from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, followed by a discussion of around 45 minutes. The event will be held in cooperation with the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute for New Economic Thinking.
