The German federal government started as a “coalition of progress” in 2021 to lay the foundations for a decade of social, ecological, and economic renewal. What followed, however, is more of a mess. This could also be due to the fact that not everyone has the same idea of what progress means – is it the traditional increase in productivity? Or something entirely different?

In our Next Economy Short Cut, we talked about this with Petra Pinzler, who addresses this question in her recently published book “Hat das Zukunft oder kann das weg? Ein Zukunftskompass” (Does This Have a Future, or Can It Go? A Future Compass) and with Stefan Kolev from the Ludwig-Erhard-Forum.

Petra Pinzler

is the Berlin correspondent for the Politics and Economics section of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit. She also writes books on environmental and climate protection, and on the question of what makes a society good and happy. Her new book, Does This Have a Future, or Can It Go?, will be published beginning of September.

Stefan Kolev

is the Scientific Director of the Ludwig-Erhard-Forum for Economy and Society in Berlin and a Professor of Economic Policy at West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau. He researches the history of liberal economic thought and is a board member of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.
