Book presentation – Alex Edmans “Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit”
Date: 14th September, 2021, 4.30pm
Place: via Zoom
For years, business has been under increasing pressure to recognize its responsibility to society, and to contribute to solving major challenges such as climate change and social inequality. Business is still often done at the expense of the environment and people. At the same time, firms have more resources and power than ever before to address the problems that society is facing today.
Alex Edmans, finance professor at London Business School, believes the time has come to fundamentally redefine the purpose of enterprises. Business leaders should set the creation of social value as primary purpose. Profits are important, but according to Edmans a by-product of service to society and not the ultimate goal in itself.
We cordially invite you to a discussion with Alex Edmans. He will present his book “Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit”, published in 2020, followed by a discussion with Rajshri Jayaraman, Associate Professor of Economics at ESMT Berlin.
The event is a cooperation between the ESMT Berlin and the Forum New Economy.
